Reading List: June 2013

I recently bought myself a Kindle, and oh my goodness I love it! I love being able to take my books with me everywhere and tuck them so neatly into my small handbag. But more on that later.

The Secret Daughter by Shilpi Somaya Gowda

This is a beautiful story, with each chapter being told from the perspective of each of the characters (my favourite kind of book). It had me crying within the first few pages (possibly because I'm a Mum) and you know when you have such an emotional reaction to a book, it's going to be hard to put it down.

It's the story of mainly 2 couples; one couple in India, living in rural poverty having to give up a second daughter as a son is what is wanted and the other, a well to do, multi-racial couple in America, both successful doctors unable to have a child of their own attempting to adopt from India. Starting in the early eighties, each chapter flicks between the different perspectives as well as the children's, and even though it's quite obvious how it may or may not turn out, it still had me flicking (or clicking in my case!) between the pages and not knowing exactly how it was going to finally play out.

Such a good book it took me a few weeks to feel I could start another one again; I was still lost within this one.
